For only Tk 20!

For only Tk 20, a transport worker was stabbed to death allegedly by his co-worker in Mashkanda area of the town yesterday.

The deceased was Mohammad Shahabuddin, 26, son of late Abdul Jalil of Agrakanda area.

Quoting locals, Mahmudul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said Shahabuddin and some other youths of the area used to work in Mashkanda Bus Stand area. They manage trips for different microbuses and private cars bound for Dhaka.

The workers get Tk 20 to Tk 30 for every passenger, said the OC.

Shahabuddin and his co-worker Jewel locked in an altercation as the latter demanded Tk 20 from the victim as he was not present in the bus stand area yesterday morning.

At one stage, Jewel stabbed Shahabuddin, leaving him critically injured as Shahabuddin refused to pay the money. 

Shahabuddin was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Soon after the incident, agitated people of the locality attacked the house of Jewel and ransacked it.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Police arrested Jewel from the town around 3:00pm, said the OC.
