One killed as rival groups clash
A man was killed in a clash between two rival groups over a disputed land at Bhatiapara village in Baksiganj upazila on Friday.
The deceased was Nazrul Islam, 35, of the village, said Nayan Das, sub-inspector (SI) of Baksiganj Police Station.
Police arrested accused Monwara Begum, 48, Hanufa, 25, Harun, 28, and Sujan, 25, of the area in the murder case.
There was a longstanding conflict between Rafiqul Islam, 45, and Mister Ali, 55, of the village over the land.
On Friday afternoon, Nazrul, younger brother of Mister Ali, went to demarcate the land. At this, Harun, nephew of Rafiqul, tried to resist him, triggering a clash.
Later, the men of the two rivals, equipped with lethal weapons, attached each other, leaving at least 15 people from both sides injured.
Of them, seriously injured Nazrul died at a hospital, said the SI.
A murder case was filed, accusing 19 named and 10 to 15 unnamed people, he said.
The arrestees were sent to a court that sent them to jail yesterday, said the police official.
