One to die for murder

A Netrakona court today yesterday sentenced a youth to death and two others to life term imprisonment in a motorcycle driver murder case in 2011.

The death convict is Rubel Mia, 29, son of Helal Uddin of village Gohalakanda in Purbodhala upazila while the lifeers are Ashraful Islam, 30, son of Nurul Haque and Monir Hossain, 32, son of Tofazzol Hossain of village Kakrakanda in Durgapur upazila.

Of them, Ashraful was tried in absentia.

District and Sessions Judge KM Rasheduzzaman Raza also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each.

According to the prosecution, the convicts rented the motorcycle of Ripon Mia, 28, from Durgapur upazila on June 14 in 2011. Later, the trio killed Ripon and took his motorbike and dumped the body in Bijoypur hill area.

The victim's father Ahmed Ali filed a murder case accusing unidentified people on the same day.
