Old man hacked to death

An elderly man was hacked to death by criminals at his residence in Tumchar village under Muladi upazila of the district early yesterday.  

The deceased was Akbar Ali Hawlader, 65, of the village. 

Police and family members said a gang of five to six, equipped with sharp weapons, entered Akbar's house and hacked him indiscriminately around 3.30am.

The criminals took away three cows from the house. They also blasted a cocktail before fleeing the spot, said the victim's wife Siria Begum.

Critically injured Akbar was rushed to Muladi Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctors declared him dead, said Matiur Rahaman, officer-in-charge of Muladi Police Station.

Preparation to file a case in connection with the incident was going on as of filing of this report around 7:00pm yesterday, said the OC.
