Nylon net to save brinjal from birds
Using nylon nets, over 40 brinjal farmers of five villages in Charbadrasan upazila are being benefited as they do not have to use pesticides in their fields.
“Instead of using any pesticides, I cover my brinjal fields with nylon nets to save the plants from birds. I am getting better result by applying this method for the last five years,” said Motaleb Khan of Argo Kha Dangi village.
“Following advice from an agriculture officer in 2013, I started covering my brinjal field with nylon net instead of using pesticide,” he said.
"I earned Tk 1 lakh by selling eggplants from my 57 decimals of land last year. I had invested Tk 15,000," said Motaleb.
They can use the same nylon net several times to protect eggplants. The method costs less than using pesticides, said farmer Barak Fokir of the same village.
Attack of birds has decreased about 90 percent since nylon nets were used for protecting eggplants, said grower Jalal Kha of Charsultalpur village.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Jahidul Islam Biswas said farmers are getting good profit by using nylon net.
