Nine to die for killing Narail AL leader
A court here yesterday sentenced nine people to death, including three of a family, for killing a leader of Narail's Bhadrabhila Union Awami League on February 1 in 2017.
Judge MA Rob Hawlader of Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, Khulna, delivered the verdict in presence of the convicts.
The convicts are former chairman of Bhadrabhila Union Parishad Md Shahidur Rahman Mina, 52, his brother Md Ilias Mina, 56, Shahidur's son Md Ashiqur Mina alias Ashik, 22, Md Russel Mina, 30, son of Musharraf Mina, Bashar Molla, 39, son of Hashim Molla, Robiul Molla, 25, son of Musharraf Molla, Enayet Molla, 53, son of Haran Molla, Yasin Molla, 24, son of Motiar Molla, and Mamun Mina, 28, son of Musa Mina.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, Public Prosecutor Enamul Hoque said.
President of Bhadrabhila Union Awami League Probhash Roy Hanu was hacked while talking with the general secretary of his unit Khairuzzaman Fakir on Feb 1, 2017 at Mirpara Bazar in Narail town, according to the case record.
Probhash was taken to Narail Hospital and later referred to Jessore Medical College Hospital, but he died on the way.
Victim's wife Tutul Rani Roy Ghosh, headmaster of Jhikra Phulshar Primary School in Narail, told this correspondent that she got the happy news that those who killed her husband mercilessly in broad daylight had been awarded death sentence.
“I am passing my lonely life with my only son Manosh Roy Don,” said Tutul Rani.
"My husband's fault was that he supported the AL candidate of then UP election while the key convict Shahidur Rahman contested as an independent candidate," she added.
Tutul Rani filed a murder case with Narail Sadar Police Station, accusing nine people and five to six unnamed people on February 3 in 2017.
Investigation Officer Bhabotosh Roy submitted charge sheet against nine convicts on February 22.
