Woman dies as orna entangled with wheel

A woman met a tragic death on her way to Joypurhat Modern Hospital after her orna (long scarf) got entangled with the rear wheel of a battery-run easy-bike in Joypurhat on Monday afternoon.

The victim was Joli Begum, 37, wife of late Afsar Ali of Chowdhury Para under Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat.

The incident happened in front of Bazla School in the town.

Police, quoting witnesses, said Joli came to Joypurhat town from Panchbibi upazila by a passenger bus on Monday afternoon. She got down from the bus at Pachurmor in the town and hired a battery-run easy-bike to go to Joypurhat Modern Hospital to see her ailing relative there.

As the easy-bike carrying her came in front Bazla School, she suddenly fell on the road as her orna got entangled with a rear wheel of the vehicle.

Locals took Joli to Joypurhat Modern Hospital. She succumbed to her injures there, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
