Fish drying process hampered in Dublar Char due to adverse weather

Fish drying process has been hampered at Dublar Char in the Sundarbans due to the ongoing adverse weather.

Fish worth about Tk one crore are getting rotten as the fishermen are not able to dry those due to rain for the last few days, said Kamal Uddin Ahmed, general secretary of Dubla Fisherman Group.

Akkas Ali, a fisherman of Dubalr Char, said they are not able to dry the fish for the last few days as the weather is not good. Due to this, the fish are getting rotten.

According to Sundarbans East Division, thousands of fishermen catch fish in the deep sea from October to March every year. Later, the fish are dried in Dublar Char and adjacent areas of the Sundarbans. The dried fish are then exported to Chattogram and abroad.

Divisional Forest Officer Mahmudul Hasan of Sundarbans Eastern Division said if the situation continues, revenue collection of the forest department may be greatly reduced.
