Swechchhasebak League man jailed
A mobile court yesterday sentenced a local Swechchhasebak League leader to 15 days' imprisonment on charge of misappropriating government allocated rice meant for selling at Tk 10 per kg for ultra-poor people at Dhuldi Bazar in Faridpur Sadar upazila.
The convict, Md Zafor Iqbal alias Chunnu, 45, of Karpur village under Machchar union of the same upazila, is president of union Swechchhasebak League and a dealer under Tk 10 per kg rice selling programme.
“On secret information, a team of Rapid Action Batallion (Rab-8) conducted a drive at Dhuldi Bazar around 12:00 noon and arrested Jafor Iqbal red-handed with 13 tonnes of rice and 81 fake cards for distribution of the rice from his godown,” said Roish Uddin, assistant superintendent of police and company commander of Rab-8 in Faridpur.
Later he was presented before a mobile court that awarded him 15 days' imprisonment on charge of misappropriation of the rice meant for selling at Tk 10 per kg for ultra-poor people, he said.
“Iqbal was convicted under Section 188 of the Penal Code and sentenced to 15 days' imprisonment. The seized rice was kept under the custody of Jahid Munshi, chairman of Machchar union parishad,” said Md Parvez Mollik, executive magistrate of the court.
