SSC student among three murdered

Three people, including a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee, were murdered in Kishoreganj, Lalmonirhat and Barguna yesterday.

The victim in Kishoreganj was Mehedi Hasan Joy, 16, son of trucker Kanchan Mia of Aatkapara village in the upazila, and an SSC examinee from Abdul Gani High School and College in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Quoting schoolteachers and students, Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station OC Abu Bakar Siddiq said Joy had an altercation with Class X student Sabbir Hossain, 15, of the school over their senior and junior status a few days ago.

When Joy went to the school for his private tuition yesterday morning, Sabbir along with two outsiders locked in an altercation with Joy over the issue.

At one stage, Joy was stabbed allegedly by Sabbir. Critically injured Joy was taken to Kishoreganj General Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Eklash Uddin, a teacher of the school, had rushed to the spot to save Joy but he came under attack too.

"Police sent the body to hospital for autopsy and arrested Sabbir's accomplice Tareq, 16, in connection with the incident," said the OC.

Meanwhile, a youth was hacked to death at a potato field in Barabari Bidyabagis village of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, reports our correspondent.

The victim was Swapan Kumar Roy, 23, son of Binod Chandra Roy of the village.

OC Mahfuz Alam of Sadar Police Station said Swapan went out of house to play badminton on Monday night and did not return home since then.

Informed by locals, police recovered Joy's body, which bore injury marks, and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said the OC.

The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, he said.

In Barguna, Md Ayub Ali Hawlader, 75, was found murdered at Kathaltali village in Pathorghata upazila of the district, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.

"Ayub went out of home on Monday evening and remained missing. Informed, police recovered his body with injury marks from a canal and sent it to Barguna General Hospital for autopsy," said Md Barkat Hossain, sub-inspector of Pathorghata Police Station.
