Raped speech impaired girl becomes pregnant

Poloice yesterday arrested a man on charge of raping a speech impaired girl in Sadar upazila of Jashore.

The arrestee is Younus Ali, 50, son of Motaleb Biswas of Kachua Palpara area in the upazila.

Younus, a neighbour of the victim, was arrested yesterday morning after father of the 19-year-old victim, now six months pregnant, filed a rape case with Kotwali Police Station against him on Friday night.

The incident came to light when the girl disclosed the matter to her parents after they noticed her physical changes a few days ago.

Victim's family members said they got her examined at a local diagnostic centre on November 15 and came to know that she was 24 weeks' pregnant.

According to the case statement, Younus, a married man, raped the teenage girl on several occasions when none of her family members were present at home between April and June this year, promising that he would marry her.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Apurbo Hasan said they were investigating the matter.
