'Punish instigators of schoolgirl's suicide'

Participants at a human chain in the district on Tuesday demanded exemplary punishment to the criminals responsible for the suicide of a Class X girl student of a school.

The teachers, students and the managing committee members of Karima Secondary School organised the human chain on the premises of the school demanding maximum punishment to the instigators of the suicide of Asfia Khatun, a student of the school.

The students, teachers and employees of different schools in the district wore black badges to condole the death of Asfia, who committed suicide out of frustration due to stalking by the criminals for a long time.

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Mostafa Kamal and Superintendent of Police Sajjadur Rahman spoke at the programme and expressed solidarity with the organisers.

District Education Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, Headmaster of the school Abu Taher, Assistant Headmaster Azizul Islam, teacher Abdul Malek and some students spoke at the human chain.

The DC said he will take the responsibility for rehabilitation of Asfia's mother Zohora Khatun.

Asfia's mother filed a case for instigation to commit suicide against Mehedi Hasan and his mother Tafura Khatun by name, and two to three unnamed others.

The main accused of the case, Mehedi, has already been arrested. Police are continuing drives to arrest the other accused.

Mehedi was produced before a court here that sent him to jail on Tuesday.
