Prime suspect sent to jail

Detective Branch (DB) of police on Sunday arrested the prime suspect in the killing of a five-year-old girl at Panchgaon village in Bhaluka upazila.

The arrestee is Md Shafiqul Islam, 30, son of late Abdul Jabber, a neighbour of the victim.

Shafiqul was produced before the Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Billal Hossain yesterday and the court recorded his statement under Section-164 and sent him to jail, said DB Officer-in-Charge Shah Kamal Akanda. 

Police recovered the body of Farjana Akhter, daughter of Fazlul Haque of the village, on Friday night. 

Victim's father lodged a murder case with Bhaluka Police Station in this regard on Saturday.

During interrogation, Shafiqul confessed to his involvement in the killing over land dispute with the victim's father, said OC Akanda.

Police drives are on to arrest the other people involved in the killing, he said.

Farjana went out of her house on Friday morning but did not return home, police said. 

Local people found the girl's body in a bamboo cluster on Friday night. There were injury marks on her face, head and eyes, they said. 

Police announced Shafiqul's arrest at a press conference yesterday.
