Play effective role for fair election

The Election Commission (EC), government and media should play an effective role to make the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections fair, peaceful and acceptable, urges Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujon).

Sujon's Central Coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarkar said this while reading out a statement on behalf of the organisation at a press conference, organised by its district unit at Manikganj Press Club yesterday.

While replying to the journalists' questions, Dilip said as the government's executive division is under the EC during the election period, it is the responsibility of the EC to make the election fair and acceptable so that the voters can cast their votes peacefully.

The EC should ensure equal opportunities for all participants in their election campaign, he said.

Besides, it should also look after the executive division so that ruling party's candidates do not get any favour, he added.

Dilip also urged the media personnel, observers and general public to be alert and asked the voters to vote for honest and eligible candidates.
