One held in Madaripur

Police yesterday arrested a man in connection with stabbing of a girl student of Class X from Kalkini Municipality area in Madaripur.

The schoolgirl's mother filed a case against nine people, including Samon Akon, 25, and Romon Akon, 30, sons of Salam Akon of Sahedrampur village, with Kalkini Police Station yesterday morning.

The arrestee is Ripon Akon, 40, brother of Samon and Romon. He was an expat in Saudi Arabia.

The victim's family members said she was stabbed by Samon Akon while she was going to her school on Tuesday morning, as she refused to get married to his elder brother Romon.

The girl was stabbed on her head, neck and mouth. Locals rushed her to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex and from there she was shifted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal on Tuesday night.

“The victim's mother filed a case against nine people with Kalkini Police Station around 9:20am     on Wednesday. After filing of the case, we arrested Ripon from Kalkini Municipality area at around 10:00am,” said Kalkini Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harun-ur-Rashid.
