Manikganj man to die for burning child after rape, murder

A court in Manikganj today sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering a child before burning her at Daulatpur upazila of the district on October 20, 2018.

Manikganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain handed down the verdict in presence of accused Shahadat Hossain Sadhu, 35, this noon.

According to the verdict, Shahadat raped the 13-year-old daughter of his wife's sister after taking her to an abandoned place in the upazila's Shyampur village on the night of October 28.

 After raping the girl, Shahadat killed her and then burned the body by pouring petrol over it to hide the crime.

A day after the incident, the victim's mother filed a case with Daulatpur Police Station accusing Shahadat. Police later arrested him in connection with the case.

The investigation officer of the case Sub-Inspector Abdul Hai filed the charge sheet before the court on May 13, 2019.
