Five get life term in two districts

Tribunals in Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat yesterday sentenced a total of five people to life imprisonment in separate cases filed for abduction and murder.

A Chapainawabganj court yesterday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for abducting two boys for ransom in 2016.

The convicts are Raju Malitha, 22, of Doulatpur upazila in Kushtia, and Mohram Hossain, 33, of Chatmohar upazila in Pabna.

Judge Shawkat Ali of Chapainawabganj Special Tribunal-2 also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each. In default, they are to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the case statement, the convicts abducted Osman Ali, 13, and his cousin Shahadat Ali, 12, from Khalsi Bazar in Nachole upazila on February 5, 2016 and demanded Tk 50,000 from their family members over phone.

Shahadat managed to flee from the abductors and reach home safely while kidnappers took Osman to Chatmohar in Pabna.

On February 9, law enforcers arrested the two culprits and rescued Osman from Chatmohar Station area.

Away in Joypurhat, a court yesterday jailed three people for life in a case for killing a night guard in Khetlal upazila in 2013.

The lifers are Dilbar Hossain, 35, Mosharraf Hossain, 40, and Siddique Hossain, 50, of Kosba village.

Judge Begum Momotaz Parvin of Joypurhat District and Sessions Judge's Court pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicts.

According to the prosecution, the convicts slit the thrat of Golam Rabbani, a night-guard of an irrigation pump at Shanipukur village, on July 3, 2013.

Deceased's father Mofazzal Hossain filed a murder case with Khetlal Police Station the following day.
