FF Murder: Jubo League man on 7-day remand

A Jubo League leader was placed on a seven-day remand in freedom fighter (FF) Mostafizur Rahman Selim murder case after police produced him before the District Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday seeking 10 days' remand.

Earlier on Sunday, he was arrested in the district town, said Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station Bahauddin Faruki.

The arrestee is Abdulla Al Baki Arzu, 45, son of Imdadul Haque Biswas of Char Rooppur village in Ishwardi upazila, and former vice president of the upazila unit of Jubo League.

The OC said on secret information, a police team raided Hemayetpur area on Sunday night and arrested Arzu. Following the arrestee's confessional statement, police later seized a pistol and two bullets from his village home.

During investigation, police found the arrestee's involvement in the killing and got important information from him, Superintendent of Police Md Rafikul Islam said at a press conference at the police station yesterday.

FF Selim, 70, of the village, was shot dead near his house on Wednesday night. The victim's son later filed a case, accusing unidentified criminals.

Selim, also the former secretary of Pakshey union unit of Awami League, was vocal against corruption and irregularities.

Locals blocked Dhaka-Kushtia highway at Rooppur on Thursday, demanding exemplary punishment of the killers.
