Farmer killed as villagers clash

A man was killed yesterday as villagers clashed using bamboo sticks and iron rods after a cow ate ripe paddy at the victim's field in Dimla upazila.

The victim was farmer Subash Roy, 55, son of Potiram Roy of Uttor Gomnati village .

Police said two cows of one Motilal Roy, 55, son of Hiralal Roy of the same village, ate the paddy and damaged a portion of the field of Subash.

Subash had an altercation with Motilal. At one stage, their supporters joined the altercation.

As a sequel, the groups later locked in a fierce clash using bamboos, wooden sticks, iron rods and brick bats.

Subash was critically injured when a man of the opponent group hit him on the head with a bamboo.

Subash was taken to Domar Upazila Health Complex in an unconscious state from where  he was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) after primary treatment.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at RMCH.

Victim's son Sukumar Roy, 28, filed a case with Domar Police Station yesterday, accusing five people, including Motilal.
