Beaten AL leader lands in hospital

The chairman of Chhotobogi Union Parishad (UP) in Taltali upazila of Barguna landed in hospital as criminals injured him when he was returning home from a function on Friday night. 

The victim, Toufiquzzaman Tanu, also general secretary of Taltali upazila unit of Awami League, was taken to Taltali Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor referred him to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Nishanbaria UP Chairman Md Dulal Farajee and his men attacked Tanu in Badghat area when he was returning to his residence at Taltali upazila headquarters from Shuvo Sandhya sea beach after attending 'moonlit festival' there, said Taltali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pullok Chandra Roy.

Tanu filed a case with Taltali Police Station in this regard on Friday night and police arrested Dulal from his residence early Saturday, he said.

Tanu said Dulal and 10 to 12 of his men attacked and attempted to kill him following a previous enmity.

“Hearing my screams, locals came to my rescue and took me to the upazila health complex,” he said.

Contacted by this correspondent, Dulal refused to make any comment on the matter.

“We will take legal steps after proper investigation in this regard,” the OC said.
