4 kids drown in Netrakona, Lalmonirhat
Four children drowned in Netrakona and Lalmonirhat in the last two days.
Two girls drowned in a pond at Dakkhin Paruliya village in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The deceased were Nishi Akhter, 5, daughter of Tota Miah, and her neighbour Taha Akhter, 6, daughter of Ershadul Haque of the village.
Police and family sources said the duo accidentally fell into a pond near their house and drowned when they were playing on its bank.
Later, the bodies were recovered from the water, said Omar Farooque, officer in charge (OC) of Hatibandha Police Station.
Meanwhile, two kids drowned in Netrakona on Friday, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
The victims were Halima Akter, 3, daughter of Dulal Mia, and one and half-year-old Niyon, son of Milon Mia of Gogda Konapara village in Kendua upazila.
Fahima Akter, 3, who was rescued from the pond in critical state, was taken to adjacent Tarail Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Kishoreganj General Hospital, said OC Imarat Hossain Gazi of Kendua Police Station.
The condition of Fahima, daughter of Rustom Ali, has improved, said the OC quoting doctors at the hospital.
Family sources said the trio fell into the pond near their house when they were playing on its bank in the evening. Locals later rescued the kids from the water.
Of them, Halima and Niyon were found dead, said OC Imarat.
