109 houses gutted in Panchagarh

At least 109 houses were gutted at Laxmipur Paksiri village in Atwary upazila of Panchagarh yesterday.

A good number of Aman paddy heaps were damaged as the harvesting season is going on in full swing.

Niranjan Sarkar, station officer at Panchagarh Fire Station, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in one Sharif Uddin's house of the village and soon engulfed another 108 other houses belonging to 36 families.

On information, fire fighters from Panchagarh and Boda fire stations went to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people.

People could not save their valuables as the blaze spread rapidly.
