Debris removal may take 2 months: Army official
It may need two months to remove the debris of Tampaco Foils Factory which caught fire following explosions in Tongi BSCIC area on Saturday, Brigadier General ASM Mahmud Hasan, commander of the army team conducting rescue operation, said today.
The debris is more than that of Rana Plaza that collapsed on April 24 in 2013 killing 1,135 people, Bangla daily Prothom Alo said quoting the army official.
There are many drums of Ethyl at different places inside the factory but the team has no experience of handling those, he added.
“We are working with all possible precaution. We will not touch the drums. We will remove the debris keeping the drums untouched,” the army official said.
The team expressed hope to remove the debris from the road of the factory’s eastern part by this afternoon.
They will start their full- fledged operation to remove the debris after the Eid-ul-Azha to be celebrated tomorrow, the daily reports.
