Man beaten dead for seeking wage

A day labourer was beaten to death yesterday for demanding his wage at Katoli village in Phulpur upazila.

The victim was Emdad Hossain, 25.

Quoting local people, Officer-in-Charge of Phulpur Police Station AKM Mahbub Alam said Emdad harvested paddy from farmer Jasim Uddin's field as day labourer for a few days.

Emdad went to Jasim's house yesterday and demanded his wages for the work. At one stage, an altercation ensued between them and Jasim and his men beat up Emdad with sticks, leaving him critically injured, the OC said.

Hearing Emdad's screams, neighbours took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
