Madrasa boy stabbed dead

A madrasa student was stabbed to death and five others sustained injuries in an attack allegedly by a local gang over purchasing a mobile phone in Brahmanbaria town on Sunday.

The deceased, Delwar Hossain Hridoy, 19, was a student of Kitab section at Jamia Younusia Madrasa in Kandipara area of the town, and son of Younus Mia of Purbo Medda area.

Sub-Inspector of Sadar Model Police Station Ishtiak Ahmed said Hridoy locked in an altercation with a group of youths of Jular Bari area over buying a handset on Sunday night.

At one stage, the group swooped on Hridoy and stabbed him mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.

Five of his family members and friends also sustained injuries when they tried to resist the attackers.

Local people rescued them and sent three of them, including Hridoy, to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, where the doctors declared the boy dead.

Officer-in-Charge Nabir Hossain of the police station said police in a drive detained one of the attackers Tahsin Islam Rifat from Bhairab area in Kishoreganj yesterday.
