Lightning kills 3 in three districts

Three people, including a schoolboy, were killed by lightning in Pirojpur, Mymensingh and Dinajpur districts yesterday and on Tuesday.

Our Pirojpur correspondent reports, a schoolboy was killed in lighting strike in Mathbaria upazila of the district yesterday noon.

The deceased, Yasin, 8, son of Younus Dorji of Uttar Bechki village, was a Class II student at Uttar Bechki Government Primary School.

Quoting Yasin's family members, local union parishad member Ismail Khan said a thunderbolt struck Yasin when he went to bring back their cattle from a nearby grazing field amid rain around 12:45pm, killing him instantly on the spot.

In Mymensingh, a housewife was killed by lightning in Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, Minara Khatun, 45, was a resident of Bhatipara village in the upazila, reports our correspondent.

Minara died instantly after being struck by a thunderbolt while she was doing her household works in her homestead around 1:00pm, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Kotwali Police Station Khandaker Shaker Ahmed said.

Our Dinajpur correspondent adds, an elderly woman was killed in lightning strike in Birampur upazila on Tuesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Kartiki Bala, 55, wife of late Nibash Chandra Roy of Dakkhin Harirampur village.

Katla Union Parishad Chairman Nazir Hossain said the woman was killed on the spot after a streak of lightning hit her while she was sweeping her courtyard.
