Kids denied IT literacy as teacher serves UZ office
The upazila education officer in Sarishabari upazila allegedly engaged an assistant teacher of a local government primary school at Charhatbari village as a computer operator at his office for nearly two years, depriving the school kids of computer education.
Shahinur Islam, who joined Kuthirhat Government Primary School as a computer teacher in 2001, started serving as a computer operator at the upazila education office as he was 'unofficially transferred' to the upazila education office in the middle of 2014, said Syedur Rahman, acting headmaster of the school.
Shahinur Islam appears at the school once or twice in a month only to put his signature on the attendance book and keep his job, he added.
Seeking anonymity, an assistant upazila education officer said Shahinur has been serving as a personal computer operator of the upazila education officer although the office already has an operator.
Naresh Kumar Bishwas, a member of the school managing committee, said the committee had requested the upazila education officer to release Shahinur from the office and bring him back to the school but the officer did not pay any heed to their request.
When asked, Shahinur told this correspondent over cell-phone that he is not attending the school since the upazila education officer verbally ordered him to work as a computer operator at his office about two years ago.
Contacted, Mohammad Ferdaus, Sarishabari upazila education officer, said, "Sometimes I engage Shahinur at my office but it does not happen very often."
