Khaleda, Kerry hold meeting at US embassy
US Secretary of State John Kerry held a meeting with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia this afternoon and discussed the country’s prevailing situations including politics and human rights.
The meeting began around 4:35pm and continued till 5:05pm at the US embassy in Dhaka.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Khaleda’s adviser Sabiuddin Ahmed also accompanied her during the meeting.
Emerging from the meeting, Fakhrul told journalists that they discussed about the upcoming general election of Bangladesh, its democracy, human rights, militancy and terrorism, rule of law and different issues.
“We, both the sides are hopeful that democracy will be established in Bangladesh and its economical development will be ensured simultaneously with the help of the US,” he said.
The US wants to work, upholding friendly relation with Bangladesh, to boost democracy and the rule of law, he added.
