Key accused made local AL unit secy

One year into the killing of former organising secretary of Bhuapur upazila unit of Awami League Rokibul Islam Farid, police are yet to submit the charge sheet in the case.

Rather, Aloa Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam, one of the main accused in the case, was made general secretary (GS) of the union unit of AL a few days ago, said the victim's family members and police.

Farid's throat-slit body was recovered from a pond near his house on December 6 last year, a day after he went missing.

Later, a murder case was filed with Bhuapur Police Station accusing unidentified criminals.

On December 15, Farid's younger brother filed another supplementary case with Judicial Magistrate's Court in Tangail, accusing seven people. The accused include upazila AL joint conveners Taherul Islam Tota and Abdul Hamid Bhola, and UP chairman Nurul Islam. 

Eight people were later held. Of them, arrestees Nurul Islam, Mokbul Hossain, Mainul Hossain, Shawkat Hossain and Nasir Uddin Rana gave confessional statements to the court admitting their involvement with the killing over establishing supremacy in the area.

Of the arrestees, five were freed on bail, court sources said.

The victim's brother expressed his concern over getting justice as Nurul Islam, one of the main accused, was made union AL GS recently after getting bail. 

OC Ashok Kumar Sinha, also the investigation officer of the case, said charge sheet against the accused will be pressed within the next two weeks.
