IO changed for failure to make any progress

The investigation officer (IO) in the sensational Hindu couple murder case in the district last year was changed on Sunday for his failure to make any progress even nine months after the incident.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjit Kumar Roy said previous IO was changed for his failure to unearth the mystery behind the murder and make any progress in the case.

Sanjit said they have already got a clue in the gruesome murder and the mystery behind the murder would be unearthed very soon. He refused to say anything more about the matter for the sake of investigation.

 Previous IO Ashoke Kumar Sinha said the change was made at the directive of SP for his failure. 

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mohammad Rezaur Rahman has been made the new IO, Ashoke said.

The bodies of Anil Kumar Das, 70, a retired teacher of Rasulpur High School in the district, and his wife Kalpana Rani Das, 55, were found in a sack containing some bricks in a well beside their house in Sadar upazila on July 27 in 2017.

Victims' son Nirmal Kumar Das filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station in this regard the next day, accusing unnamed people.

Slain Anil's stepbrothers Ratan Das and Swapan Soumitra were arrested the same night and were placed in remand through a court the next day.

The case was shifted to the DB police on the same day and they quizzed the duo in their custody.

One Dulu Miah was also later shown arrested in the case.

Swapan and Dulu later got bail from the court.

The investigators, however, failed to get any important information about the killing from the arrestees, which frustrated the children of the deceased couple as well as the villagers.

Anil's student poet Rashed Rahman said they want exemplary punishment of those who killed the couple. "The villagers are frustrated as well as panicky as the killers have not been identified yet," he added.

Nirmal said he still does not know who killed his parents although nine months have passed. "I want the killers to get capital punishment," he added.
