Husband's torture lands Reshma in hospital
A 30-year-old housewife, beaten by her dowry-greedy husband on Monday night, is undergoing treatment in Barguna's Amtali Upazila Health Complex with severe injuries.
The victim is Reshma Begum, wife of Matiar Rahman of Arpangashia village.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Following a case filed by victim Reshma, also mother of two, police arrested Matiar from his house yesterday, said Mohammad Sahid Ullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Amtali Police Station.
He was later produced before a court in the afternoon that sent him to jail, the OC added.
The OC said Matiar often used to torture his wife since their marriage in 2002.
On April 13, Matiar asked Reshma to bring Tk 2 lakh from her father to buy a motorbike for him.
When Reshma refused to do so, Matiar beat her mercilessly with sticks. He again beat her brutally and confined her to a room.
Hearing the news, Reshma's two siblings Mohammad Hasan and Maya Begum with the help of Amtali police rescued their sister from the confinement and admitted her to Amtoli Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, the OC said.
