Huge quantity of scallions seized

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized huge quantity of scallions while those were being smuggled to India through Hili border under Hakimpur upazila of the district yesterday.

People consume scallion, a kind of onion, and its leaves as vegetables.

A team of BGB 20 Battalion in Joypurhat, acting on a tip-off, raided Mongla Bazaar area around 6:00am and seized 1,320 kg of scallions packed in 25 sacks in an abandoned condition.

The smugglers, however, fled the spot, sensing the presence of the BGB team, Subedar Mohsin Ali, commander of Mongla border outpost, said.

The seized scallions were later handed over to Hili Customs authority, he said.
