Housewife takes own life

A housewife allegedly committed suicide at Yakubpur Devnathpara village in Sadar upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Dipti Devnath, 25, wife of Joyanta Devnath of the village.

Local union parishad Chairman Mahbubur Rahman Mukul told this correspondent over cellphone that Dipti committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf from a beam of her room. She was in the house with her two-year-old daughter while other family members had gone to work.

Hearing the screams of Dipti's daughter neighbours went to the house and saw Dipti hanging from the beam.

The reason behind the suicide could not be known immediately.
