10-km tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong highway
With only three days left before the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the mad rush for going home has reached its peak but there is still no respite from traffic congestion.
A 10-kilometre gridlock has been created on Dhaka-Chittagong highway stretching from Biswa Road area of Daudkandi in Comilla to Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj with a large number of vehicles left stranded.
However, vehicles are moving slowly from Gomti Bridge to Doribaushia in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj, creating tailbacks of on eight kilometers area on the highway.
Due to the upsurge of vehicles crossing the bridge, movement is sloth, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Police are trying to control the situation but their efforts are falling short, said Kamrujjaman Raj, police sergeant of Bhaber Char Highway Police Outpost.
Meanwhile, our Manikganj correspondent reports around 1,000 vehicles are waiting on queue at Paturia end of Daulatdia-Paturia ferry route and a five-kilometre tailback has been created from Jamgora area to Daulatdia.
Though Dhaka-Mawa highway remains free, Shimulia-Kawrakandi ferry route experiencing gridlock of around 500 vehicles are waiting on the queue.
Around 17 ferries including four Ro-Ro ferries remain operational on the route, said Abdul Alim, assistant manager of BIWTC.
