Heavy rains likely in Ctg div today, more landslides feared
Chittagong division is expected to get heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas today, according to the 24-hour weather forecast given yesterday evening.
The heavy rains could trigger further landslides in the hilly areas, Meghnath Tunchangya, assistant meteorologist of Patenga meteorology office in Chittagong, told The Daily Star citing the weather forecast.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no three from 9:00am today as deep convection is taking place over North Bay, he said.
Gusty or squally weather may affect the maritime ports in the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh due to deep convection taking place over North Bay, according to the special weather bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, according to the special weather bulletin.
According to the Bangladesh Met office, the highest rainfall of 181mm was recorded in Rangamati district of Chittagong division yesterday.
So far, bodies of at least 133 people, including 4 army men, were recovered after a series of landslides in 3 Chittagong hill districts yesterday. Many are still missing as painstaking rescue goes on.
