Girl gang-raped, three arrested

A girl was gang raped allegedly by her boyfriend and his friends in Patarchar area of Dashmina upazila on Tuesday night.

Police arrested three youths in connection with the incident while prime accused Rakib Hawlader, 22, managed to flee.

The arrestees are Sekandar Gazi, 23, Babu Bapari, 19, and Hasan Khan, 22, of Borogopaldi village in the upazila.

The victim, 18, hails from Nimhawla village in Galachipa upazila.

Md Zahid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Galachipa Police Station, said Rakib and the girl had been in a relationship for the last few months.

On Tuesday afternoon, Rakib took the victim from her house at Nimhawla village by a motorbike.

Rakib first took her to nearby Auliapur village in Dashmina upazila and then got onto a trawler for going to his maternal grandfather's house. Three of his friends also got onto the trawler.

They took the victim to Patarchar, a solitary char area where they gang-raped her.

Later, they came to Tulatala Kheya ghat to drop off the victim. Noticing their suspicious movement, locals caught the three youths and handed them over to police.

However, Rakib managed to flee the scene.

The victim will be sent to Patuakhali General Hospital for medical test today [Wednesday], said the OC.

A case was filed in this connection and the accused will be sent ot the court tomorrow [Thursday], he added.
