Five-year-old girl beaten dead in front of her father

A five-year-old girl was beaten dead in front of her father during a clash in Ghughudah Beel area of Santhia upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased was Sadhona Khatun, daughter of Ratan Fakir of the village.

Shadhona went to an onion field along with her father on Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ashish Bin Hasan said Ratan's rival Iman Sheikh and his family members started arguing with Ratan over harvesting onion from the field. At one stage, Iman and his sons beat up Ratan.

Ratan's family members rushed to the spot to save him. Shadhona took shelter in her father's lap but the criminals beat the girl mercilessly in front of her father, the ASP said.

Sadhona was admitted to Santhia Upazila Health Complex where she succumbed to her injuries about 8:00pm.

Victim's father filed a case with Santhia Police Station, accusing Iman and his sons. The accused went into hiding after the incident.

Police sent the body to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy yesterday.
