Five highway robbers arrested in Sirajganj

Five suspected highway robbers were arrested by highway police from Ghurka Beltola in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj yesterday.

Of the arrestees, Shahed Ali, 40, hails from Potaldigar village, Mukul Hossain, 35, from Bildashail and Md Nurun Nabi, 25, from Betuadigar in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj, Nobab Ali, 40, from Aminpur in Sherpur upazila of Bogra, and Rokon Ahmed, 30, from Shibbari in Pabna's Faridpur upazila.

Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Kader Jilani said, acting on a tip-off, highway police went to Ghurka Beltola and arrested them. Police also seized a truck, sharp weapons and iron rods from their possession.

Most of the arrestees are accused in several cases of highway robbery, the OC said, adding that a case was filed with the highway police station.

They often used to rob trucks carrying cattle by posing as truckers, he said.

The arrestees were sent to jail through a court in the afternoon, he added.
