Finalise guidelines for judges in 7 days: SC
The Supreme Court today gave seven days to the government to finalise the rules determining the discipline of lower court judges in line with its guidelines.
The apex court also ordered the government to issue a gazette notification after finalising the rules and submit it to this court in seven days.
An eight-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order during hearing the Masdar Hossain case, known as judiciary separation case.
It also adjourned the hearing for a week.
During the hearing, Additional Attorney General Murad Reza prayed to the apex court to give the time to the government for finalising the rules.
Earlier, the SC ordered the government several times to finalise the rules. In May last year, the government framed the rules according to the SC order. Later, the apex court corrected the rules in line with its guidelines in the Masdar Hossain case verdict.
On November 7, the apex court expressed dissatisfaction at the government for not finalising the rules.
