FF beaten as he protests inclusion of fake FFs

A freedom fighter (FF) was beaten in Melandah upazila yesterday allegedly by a group of fellow FFs as he protested inclusion of fake FFs by unfair means.

Injured Nazrul Islam, 63, of Hazrabari village, who fought under Sector 11 and Sector 4 during the Liberation War, took primary treatment at Melandah Upazila Health Complex.

Nazrul went to Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad premises to attend a gathering of local FFs around 12:00noon.

The incident occurred when Abul Hossain, Mohammad Ali and Nazir Hossain, who had been listed as freedom fighters, swooped on Nazrul and started beating him when he was talking about the inclusion of fake freedom fighters.

Seeing the untoward situation, FFs Idris and Gaffar rescued Nazrul.

An arbitration meeting was arranged to settle the issue, but victim Nazrul refused to reunite with the attackers and demanded exclusion of the fake FFs from the list, former commander of Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad Anwar Hossain said.
