A Netrakona court yesterday sentenced a man and his daughter to life imprisonment for killing a girl child in 2010.

The court also fined them Tk 25,000 each, in default, to suffer one month more in jail.

District and Sessions Judge KM Rasheduzzaman Raja handed down the verdict.

The convicts are Mongol Hossain, then 55, and his daughter Ruksana Parveen, then 19, of Pabiakhali village in Durgapur upazila. Two other accused were acquitted.

The case statement said there had been a feud over land between Mongol and his neighbour Shafiqul Islam, a school teacher.

Sahfiqul's five-year-old daughter Trisha Moni came out of her house on September 24 in 2010 and did not return. Shafiqul lodged a general diary with Durgapur Police Station on September 25.

Neighbours found Trisha's body in a nearby jungle on September 26 and informed police, who sent it to Netrakona Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Shafiqul filed a murder case on September 27, accusing Mongol, Ruksana, Mongol's son Al Amin, and Ziaur Rahman, a neighbour.

Police pressed charge sheet against the four accused on April 30 in 2011.
