Faruk murder: Assets of MP Rana attached
Authorities today attached assets of fugitive Tangail lawmaker Aamanur Rahman Rana and his siblings in connection to the murder case of Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed.
Tangail Model Police cracked down on their College Para residence in Tangail town and moved movable assets from the house, our local correspondent reports.
Lawmaker Rana, his brothers Shahidur Rahman, Jahidur Rahman and Saniyat Khan Bappa, were all leaders of Awami League and its affiliate organisations.
Houses of five others – Rana’s aide Kabir Hossain and Jubo League activists Alamgir Hossain, Nasir Uddin Nuru, Sanwar Hossain and Masudur Rahman – were also raided.
“Almost no mentionable valuable assets were found during the drives,” Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Tangail Model Police Station, said.
Meanwhile, police also raided the residence of another fugitive Babu alias Dat Bhanga Babu, a guard of MP Rana’s office in Kalihati upazila and found nothing, Saiful Islam Farajee, OC of Kalihati Police Station said.
Earlier on Monday (May 16), Senior Judicial Magistrate in Tangail Golam Kibria ordered confiscation of assets of 10 fugitive accused of Tangail AL leader Faruk Ahmed murder case.
The Magistrate passed the order as the accused did not appear before the court. They were also summoned to appear before the court by June 16, court sources said.
BACKGROUND
Previously on April 6, the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in Tangail issued arrest warrants for the 10 fugitives. Judge Aminul Islam passed the order after accepting a charge sheet against the 14 accused.
Faruk, also a freedom fighter, was shot dead on the night of January 18, 2013. Police submitted the charge sheet on February 3 this year.
Three days after the killing, Faruk's wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station against unidentified criminals. Police initially investigated the case that was later shifted to the Detective Branch of police.
Law enforcers arrested Anisul and Ali in March 2014. During their interrogation, they named Amanur and his three brothers among those involved in the murder.
Later, Mahfijur Rehman Ghulam, officer-in-charge of Tangail DB Police and also investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted a charge sheet against 14 people including MP Rana and his three brothers on February 3.
Of the charge sheeted accused, Anisul Islam Raja, Mohammad Ali, Samir Hossain and Farid Miah are now in jail.
