Families of slain Japanese nationals visit CMH
Relatives of the Japanese victims of the terrorist attack in Dhaka visited army’s Combined Military Hospital to see the bodies of their dear ones today.
Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiji Kihara, who arrived Saturday, accompanied the family members during the visit this morning.
“There are eight families. Eight including the injured person and each of the eight families have some family members now travelling to Bangladesh. In total, there are 18 people,” a diplomatic source told The Daily Star.
Only one Japanese national was rescued alive from the Gulshan attack site.
A military official sought anonymity to tell The Daily Star that the bodies of the foreign nationals were kept at Combined Military Hospital.
Japanese government plans to fly the bodies to Tokyo tomorrow morning, sources said.
Earlier, an Air Self-Defense Force jet of Japan arrived in Dhaka on Sunday night carrying 18 relatives of the victims, members of the International Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Collection Unit, emergency response team of the foreign ministry, members of the Consular Affairs Bureau of Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), press relations experts and medical officers.
Official sources said that throughout the night Japanese minister and his Bangladesh counterpart Md Shahriar Alam met the families and consoled them.
