Ex-Shibir leader killed in Jhenidah ‘shootout’
A former leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir was killed in a “shootout” with police in Jhenidah Sadar upazila early today.
Victim Ibnul Islam Parvej, 27, was a former president of Shibir, Jhenidah Sadar unit, our district correspondent reports quoting Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer in charge of Jhenidah Police Station.
Jahangir Hossein, father of the deceased Shibir leader hailed from Bananipara village of the district town, claims his son was picked up by plain cloth police on June, 16 from the sixth floor of House N0. 11, Road NO. 9 of Mohammadia Housing society in Dhaka.
However, the OC said assailants opened fire on a police van near Madhupur grave yard initiating a “gunfight” with the law enforcers around 3:00am, injuring two police officials.
“Parvej came in the line of fire and died on the spot while the rest managed to flee,” the police official added.
Police recovered a pistol, three bullets and some sharp weapons from the spot.
The body has been sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
