Drug peddling on rise

Local people, including teachers and students, yesterday formed a human chain protesting drug peddling and abuse in Khagdahor area of the town.

Drug peddling has been continuing in the area for long and recently, the menace has increased sharply, affecting the people, especially youth, at an alarming rate, said the speakers at the rally.

Urging the administration to check the menace, they said if it is not addressed immediately, they will go for tough movement.

It is the first protest programme under the banner of 'Sacheton Jonogan' in the area and they urged the administration to stop peddling right now for the better interest of a peaceful society, said local trader Abdullah Al Mamun.

Some 500 studetns of two local high schools joined an hour-long programme with their teachers and local people.
