Drug peddler gets life term

A court here yesterday sentenced a drug peddler to life term imprisonment.

The lifer is Md Kamal Sheikh, 40, son of Sayed Ali Sheikh of Chakli village in Bagerhat's Fakirhat upazila. He was tried in absentia.

District and Sessions Judge Md Rafiqul Islam also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, he is to suffer another six months in jail.

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Kamal with 30 bottles of phensedyl from the town on July 23 in 2015.

Later, a case was filed with Pirojpur Police Station accusing Kamal. He then went into hiding after obtaining bail from the High Court.
