Drug addict driver dies in custody

A drug addict auto-rickshaw driver died yesterday while in custody at Sonaimuri Police Station.

The deceased, Tajul Islam Tusher, 23, was son of Mominul Islam of Durga Doulatpur village under Deuti union.

Tusher's father Mominul Islam informed the police through Deuti Union Parishad Member Abul Khair when Tusher was taking Yaba in the house at around 2:30am. Police detained Tusher with nine Yaba pills and took him to the police station.

Police said Tusher committed suicide by hanging himself with the lungi he was wearing.

Mominul said his son had been taking Yaba for long. Despite many attempts, he could not be prevented from taking drugs.

As Tusher started misbehaving with the family members, Mominul informed the police, who arrested him while he was taking Yaba in the kitchen of his house.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) AZM Zahirul Islam said Tusher was an auto- rickhshaw driver and was addicted to drugs. His family members could not prevent him from taking drugs, he said, adding that police have formed an investigation committee in this connection.

The ASP said the body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.
