Divorced by fake affidavit!
A woman was divorced through an affidavit with forged signature of her husband on September 5 in 2016 when he was in Saudi Arabia.
Nazma Begum, 32, daughter of Nawab Ali of Gala village under Dhamashwar union in Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj, was married to Abul Kalam, son of Abdul Kader, of the same village about 14 years ago.
After six years, Kalam asked his father-in-law for money to go abroad. Nawab sold seven decimals of his land and gave Kalam Tk 4.75 lakh.
On October 11 in 2016, Kalam's elder brother Abdus Salam told Nazma that Kalam had divorced her and showed the divorce paper with Kalam's forged signature and drove her out from the house. Nazma took shelter in her father's house with her seven-year-old daughter.
Nawab said he talked to a lawyer and found that the signature in the affidavit was forged as it was signed on September 5 in 2016, when Kalam was in Saudi Arabia.
Nazma filed a case on October 20 with the Judicial Magistrate's Court in Manikganj, accusing two lawyers of Dhaka Judge's Court, Kalam, Salam and two villagers for involvement in making the fake document. The judge directed Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police to investigate the case.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of CID Shahidul Islam Mallik filed the report on March 12 last year.
According to the report, Nawab gave Kalam Tk 4.75 lakh, but Nazma's in-laws wanted her to write three decimals of Nawab's land in their name. As she refused, Salam made the forged divorce paper.
Salam said his brother had divorced his wife. However, he claimed that he did not know how Kalam signed the divorce paper.
SI Shahidul said the housewife was driven out of the house by creating a fake divorce paper. The two lawyers who signed on the affidavit are absconding.
The court issued an arrest warrant against the accused after the investigation report was submitted to the court. Salam and the two lawyers appeared before the court and were sent to jail. Two weeks later they got bail. Kalam has not appeared before the court so far.
Nazma demanded fair trial by bringing her husband back to the country.
