Moktar was arrested from Shoronkhola area of Bagerhat district on Monday night. Acting on Amir’s information that his firearms and some used bullets were kept near Mirerbagh Textile Mills, police launched a drive there, according to the police official.
However, upon reaching the area near the textile mill, two-three cohorts of Amir tried to snatch him away from police triggering the “gunfight”, he said.
Police and the criminals exchanged twenty rounds of bullets before Amir’s cohorts fled the scene leaving Amir injured, the Migan said.
Police took Amir to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, he added.
Two rounds of bullets, one foreign pistol, and two 24-inch long knives were recovered from the spot.
On November 11, 2012, miscreants led by Amir abducted Parag Mondol, a six-year-old KG-I student of Heed International School of the capital’s Sadarghat from Shubhadda Paschimpara in Keraniganj, according to police.
The criminals also shot and injured his mother Lipi Rani Mondal, 32, sister Pinaki Mondal, 11, and their car driver Nazrul Islam, 35, during the kidnapping, Migan said.
The kidnappers set Parag free after reportedly taking a ransom of Tk 50 lakh on November 13.
