Cycle procession against corruption

Members of a youth organisation brought out a bicycle procession in the district town yesterday with a call to fight corruption in the society.

With the slogan 'Together Against Corruption,' Youth Engagement and Support (YES) group of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organised the rally.

Eighty YES members, including 30 females, took part in the procession as part of an anti-corruption campaign to raise awareness among the town people against corruption prevailing in the community.

The cycle procession was brought out from in front of TIB's Committee of Concerned Citizens (CCC) office at Basakpara in the town. They rode along several roads of the town and ended at Government Ashek Mahmud College premises, where teachers and students of the college welcomed them and appreciated their campaign against corruption.

CCC President Masuda Aktar, Executive Member Suvro Mahdi, TIB Area Manager in Jamalpur Habibur Rahman, YES leader Sagor Mukharjee and Vice-principal of the college Prof Harun-or-Rashid spoke at a rally on the premises.

The speakers said corruption is an enemy of the nation and enemy of humanity. It is opposite to the very spirit of the Liberation War and it hampers development of the country.

“It is high time we together stood against corruption, otherwise, we cannot reach the goal of sustainable development. We should be determined to play a vital role in rooting out corruption from the society,” said Prof Harun-or-Rashid.

“The young girls and boys should raise their voice against corruption so that people of all walks of life around them can be aware of vicious effects of corruption, which is an obstacle to progress in the country,” Masuda Aktar said.
